Maris is relaxing in her ship, the Light of Cian, with her crew. Zenna and Kael from the Island Town just joined her crew. Now they for of them on their way to the Merchant Waters.
It's already late in the afternoon. So they won't reach their goal today. Maris set up the automatic navigation, so if no problem occurs on the way, they should reach their destination the next morning.
Now she doesn't have to worry when she's sitting in the main room with everybody else.
I'm already looking forward to reach the Merchant Waters. I'm sure they have some interesting books there. Maybe they also have some maps to help us during our journey.
No, not books again. We can't afford that shit.
Don't worry. I can pay them myself. I brought some money with me.
Zenna shows Rafferty a small bag of coins while smirking at him.
If it's really helpful, I can buy them as well. But let's talk about this when we actually find some books or maps.
Yeah, that's probably best.
As they continue to discuss their plans, Maris realizes that it's getting late.
I'm going to bed now. And you should, too. We should all get some rest before we reach the Merchant Waters in the morning. There are enough rooms for everyone. Just choose the ones you like.
Maris gets up, but before she enters her room, she turns to Kael. Despite his young age, she's still a little intrigued by him. She even thinks about inviting him to her room this night. But she promised Zenna.
Zenna, Kael! You'll share a room as planned. Rafferty, you're going to sleep alone. We'll discuss everything else tomorrow.
She heads to her room without looking back. Kael isn't really happy.
Zenna grabs Kael at his arm, dragging him with her to the room she already chose.
Kael shakes her off.
I don't want to go to bed yet. I didn't join Maris just to be dragged around by you now!
Kael immediately notices that he might have been a little too harsh on Zenna, but he just turns away from her and leaves her alone.
Rafferty, still sitting on some couch, just grins at Zenna.
Don't worry. We all still have to get used to this. Just leave him some room, okay?
Yeah, sure...
Zenna keeps standing there for some seconds, still thoughtful, then she decides to sit down next to Rafferty.
We need to make a list of things to buy. I need books, Kael needs weapons and clothes. What about you?
I also need weapons. I want to get into pistols and bombs. Sounds great, doesn't it?
Zenna doesn't really listen. She just stares at Rafferty. He's wearing only a top, which doesn't even cover his underpants completely. And it's obvious that something big is inside it.
Yeah, sure. And also clothes, I guess. What you're wearing, is this a nightdress?
I got it from Maris. Looks nice, doesn't it?
Zenna doesn't reply, but her expression is enough of an answer.
Yeah, so for me also weapons and clothes.
Can we write it down somewhere?
I already have everything written down up here!
He points at his head.
Okay, then you'll be responsible for remembering now.
Of course I will. You can rely on me!
I guess I should go look for... You know...
Sure, if you think it's a good idea, just go ahead.
Rafferty just gets in a more comfortable position again while Zenna leaves.
On deck, Kael stares at the waves. He doesn't notice Zenna approaching until she speaks.
Hey...
Oh, you...
If you don't want, you don't have to share a room with me. I think there are still some empty rooms left.
Don't worry. I don't mind sharing a room with you. I just wanted to enjoy my new life. I still can't believe it.
Yeah, it's really a nice view here. Even if it's dark.
You always liked to watch landscapes, didn't you?
You remember?
Kael doesn't reply and just watches the vast empty ocean. Their home town is already out of sight.
Zenna just steps closer and keeps standing there. This moment alone already is worth it. She's glad she joined.
After Zenna and Kael joined the crew, Maris sets course to the Merchant Waters. As night falls, the crew discusses their plans for supplies to get there.
